Qualcomm is upgrading its latest Snapdragon processor to support LTE-A Category 9 Carrier Aggregation.
The company's Snapdragon 810 mobile chipset will support 450 Mbps LTE-A through the aggregation of three 20MHz carriers, as well as aggregation across both FDD and TDD spectrum.
It will also be backwards compatible with GSM/EDGE, CDMA1x/EVDO, TD-SCDMA and WCDMA/HSPA+.
Qualcomm plans to launch the upgraded chipset early next year. It will use a 64-bit multicore CPU.
The upgrade comes weeks after Qualcomm and Ercisson completed interoperability testing for LTE Category 9 connectivity using Ericsson's LTE-A network infrastructure. The testing used commercially-available networking software.
Telstra and Ericsson completed a live demonstration of 450Mbps LTE-A in May.
