Vodafone Australia has announced the launch of Cat 4 LTE services, with the first two devices that can take advantage of the 150Mbps theoretical peak speeds.

The company has introduced the new Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB stick and the Vodafone Pocket WiFi wireless broadband devices.

The USB stick is available for customers on existing postpaid plans ranging from A$25 ($22) for 2.5GB of bundled data, to A$48 for $8GB.

The pocket Wi-Fi device - which acts as a portable hotspot and allows customers to connect up to 10 devices simultaneously - costs A$2 more per month.

Vodafone Australia is the only operator in the nation with a contiguous 2x20MHz of LTE spectrum in the major cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

The company launched 1800-MHz LTE services in June last year, and opened subscriptions up to new customers in July.

The operator also launched prepaid LTE services in October, although the new Cat 4 devices are not currently available on prepaid plans.

Competition in the Australian LTE market is heating up. Vodafone rival Optus is operating a dual-mode LTE network and Telstra recently demonstrating 300Mbps LTE-Advanced.
