Pacnet will invest $90 million to build a new carrier-neutral tier III data center in Singapore.
The company aims to complete construction on the eight-storey, 17,000 square foot data center in the fourth quarter. It will be connected to Pacnet's extensive subsea cable network.
The facility will be Pacnet's 17th data center in its home APAC region, and 25th in the world.
It will have a capacity of 1,500 high power density racks, and will be compliant with Singapore's BCA Green Mark certification standards.
Frost & Sullivan expects the Singapore data center services market to grow at a CAGR of 13.8% through to 2017, by which time it will be worth over $550 million.
In October last year, Pacnet announced a new strategic plan to improve growth and profitability, which includes a greater emphasis on data center and managed services. The data center build out is consistent with Pacnet's new strategy.
As part of the restructuring, Pacnet shook up its management team in the same month. The company had appointed a new CEO several months earlier.
