Three days of mourning begin in Brazil on December 30 after Pelé's death

The Diário Oficial da União reports the official decree of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who declared a three-day mourning period from December 30 in the country after the death of the legendary football player Pelé.

The ex-football player died on December 29 at the 83rd year of life after a long battle with cancer. Pelé will be buried at The Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica in Santos on December 3.

Government statement
The only three-time world champion showed by deed that he was not only a great athlete, but also a great citizen and patriot, who carried the glory of Brazil no matter where he went.

During his career, Pelé scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 matches and remains the only player to have won the World Cup three times.
