Lionel Messi, striker for Inter Miami and the Argentina national team, shared a post following a heavy 0-4 loss to PSG in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Club World Cup, resulting in his team's exit from the tournament.
PSG is a great team, the winners of the last Champions League, and the truth is they’re doing very very well. It was what we expected. It was the match we anticipated, we tried to do our best, and well, we left a good impression in terms of the Club World Cup. There was a bit of a bitter feeling after the match with Palmeiras because we were winning 2-0, and we ended up drawing, which made us face this PSG team that’s much tougher. I think we competed. Now that’s it, it’s over. We have to think about what’s coming next in our own tournament.
The match ended in a decisive victory for the French team, who will face Bayern Munich in the next round.
It’s worth noting that Messi played for PSG from 2021 to 2023 before leaving the club to join Inter Miami as a free agent. During his time in Paris, he participated in 75 matches, scoring 32 goals and providing 35 assists.
Previously, it was reported that this was the first time in Messi’s career that he was unable to secure a win at the Club World Cup. Recently, the 38-year-old Argentine also expressed that he was not happy during his time at PSG.
