Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has addressed the criticism leveled by former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp regarding the new format of the Club World Cup.
Jurgen and I have had many battles to improve the calendar with quality and rest for players and coaches. I understand where he's coming from. After all these years of rivalry, we share a great relationship, and I appreciate his position. I would defend it too. We coaches don't organize these tournaments; everyone has their role. Those who arrange them want us to be part of it, and I've said before that I'm proud to be here. After all, a lot of the criticism towards this tournament comes from those who either don’t participate or wish they were involved.
Recently, Jürgen Klopp criticized the Club World Cup, calling it the worst idea ever implemented in football. He believes that the excessive load and tight schedule next season could significantly increase the risk of injuries among players.
The updated Club World Cup 2025 is taking place in the USA from June 15 to July 13. Initially, 32 teams entered the tournament, divided into eight groups of four clubs each. The top two teams from each group advanced to the knockout stage. You can learn more about it here.
The final match will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which has a capacity of 82,500 spectators.
