IPTV subs in South Korea surge 26% in 2014

The Korea Communications Commission counts more than 10.8 million Internet protocol TV (IPTV) subscribers in South Korea as of the end of 2014, up from 8.6 million in 2013, according to Arirang News.

The number of IPTV subscribers in Korea has been on a steady rise since the launch of IPTV in 2008.

The telecom watchdog also noted that the IPTV industry's sales have grown tenfold since 2008 to reach $1.04 billion in 2013. KT has a majority market share of 54%.

According to industry watchers, the growth of South Korea’s IPTV industry has been bolstered by services like ultra HD.
