Satellite operator AsiaSat has made a formal offer to acquire just under 28% of Speedcast for $3.36 million.
Completion of the deal will make Speedcast, a regional satellite content and broadband connectivity provider, a 100% subsidiary of AsiaSat. The stake is currently held by a TVG Phoenixnet, a holding company owned by TVG Asian Communications Fund II.
AsiaSat paid $2.96 million in September for two other stakes in Speedcast totaling 24.65%.
The latest deal, a connected transaction under HKSE rules, requires the approval of AsiaSat's independent shareholders. AsiaSat said the transaction would simplify the shareholding structure of SpeedCast and allow more flexible funding to support its expansion.
AsiaSat said it would fund the transaction from internal resources.
