The Asia-Pacific public cloud market is on track to soar from $7 billion in 2015 to $23.8 billion in 2020, Forrester Research predicts.

Applications services or SaaS are expected remain the largest category, growing from $5.6 billion in 2015 to $15.6 billion in 2020.

But public cloud platform services (IaaS or PaaS) will grow at a faster rate, increasing from $1.1 billion last year to US$6.5 billion by 2020. Business services will likewise soar from $300 million to $1.7 billion over the same period.

More than half (52%) of APAC business and technology decision makers are already making creating a public cloud service strategy a high or critical priority, the research firm said.

This will ensure that public cloud services become even more pervasive wihin APAC organizations, especially as CIOs seek to execute a business technology agenda, adopting the technologies needed to win, serve and retain customers and enable digital transformation within their organizations.

This year the total public cloud market is expected to grow to $9.7 billion, with $7.3 billion coming from SaaS, $1.9 billion from IaaS or PaaS and $500 million from business services.
