Nottingham Forest have been given a four-point deduction, pushing them into the relegation zone, due to a violation of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations. They are now one point behind the last secure spot, according to a report from The Guardian.

An announcement from the Premier League is expected to be made on Monday. Nottingham Forest are likely to appeal against the breach they admitted. The club had argued that there were extenuating circumstances regarding the sale of Brennan Johnson. Last summer, Brentford made an offer of £30m for the forward, but Johnson was unwilling to move. Forest decided to wait beyond the June 30 PSR deadline, believing they could get more money for their star asset. In September, Johnson was eventually sold to Tottenham for £47.5m. However, an independent panel did not accept Forest's defense.

According to the regulations of the top-flight league, a team is not allowed to lose more than £105 million over three years. However, if a team is playing in the EFL, then the limit is lower. Nottingham Forest was promoted to the Premier League in 2022 and has spent £250m on 45 players but only earned £5m in transfers since their promotions.

Nottingham Forest has not yet released any statement regarding the points deduction.
