In the opening round, Tallon Griekspoor played Fabio Fognini, who was a formidable foe. The Italian was able to win the opening set with just one service break at the conclusion of the first set. Griekspoor responded by taking the second set and leveling the score. After breaking serve to begin the third set, Fognini dropped the next four games to fall behind. The Italian couldn’t make up for this disadvantage and dropped the set. In the eighth game of the fourth set, Griekspoor survived a break point before breaking Fognini’s serve in the game to dominate the lead, 5-4. This was Tallon’s first win at the stage of Wimbledon.
