Marin Cilic
Cilic advanced to the second round after defeating qualifier Maximilian Marterer in the first round. The Croat got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, putting him on track to win the set.
At the start of the second set, both players had break points on each other's serve and eventually exchanged four breaks of service. With Cilic serving to remain in the set at 5-4, Ramos-Vinolas held a set point but couldn't convert it. He suffered dearly for it, as the former US Open winner went on to take the set in a tie-break.
For the opening half of the third set, both players held well on serve. In the sixth game, Cilic snatched a break of serve, sealing the match in his favor. Within a few minutes, he had closed up the match, winning 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Daniel Evans
Dan Evans advanced to the second round after a convincing victory over Jiri Vesely. He faced James Duckworth. The Brit took an early break in the first set to lead 3-1. He broke his opponent's serve in the ninth game to claim the set after missing five break opportunities in the seventh game to extend his lead.
Evans claimed the set after the players held firm for the first four games of the second set. Duckworth got his rhythm and improved his level with his back to the wall. The Australian battled back to win the third set. He even broke his opponent's serve to open the fourth set and made it 2-0 with a hold of his own.
Duckworth's momentum, though, quickly came to a halt. Evans came back to tie the game at 3-3. The World No. 23 made his play with the Australian serving to remain in the match at 5-4. He finally broke his opponent's serve to win the match 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Expert Betting Tips
Evans' greatest strength is his willingness to experiment. Drop shots, numerous slices, and a continual change in the speed of rallies - the Brit never allows his opponent to settle into a groove. He waits patiently until it's time to strike.
Cilic will have a difficult time dealing with Evans, but he is more than capable of rising to the situation. His groundstrokes have greater force, but he must be accurate with his shots and conclude the points fast, otherwise he will just play to his opponent's strengths.
Evans is a difficult opponent to manage and has the ability to pull off an upset victory here. Cilic has had a stronger season thus far, and as a result, he will be the favorite to win.
