Karen Khachanov
Khachanov has played two matches in New York and won both 3-1, first against Kudla and then against Monteiro. The match against the Brazilian lasted exactly three hours, and the longest set was the fourth, won by Thiago with a score of 7-5. Khachanov served 17 aces and made three double faults, winning 82% of his first serve points and 56% of his second. Karen's reception stats: 29%/53%, winners/unforced errors 44/43.
"Karen is great. Awesome win, Monteiro is very difficult and tenacious. It's good that Karen got the win in four sets, didn't stretch it out to the fifth, because it's very dangerous when you're leading by a score with opponents like that. Karen's showing good tennis. I think he can go far enough at the US Open."
Jake Draper
Draper has been a very prominent character on the tour since the grass part of the season ended. The Briton played four hard tournaments in Atlanta, Washington, Montreal and Winston-Salem, and his most successful event of that period was Montreal, where the Briton reached the quarterfinals past qualifying. At that stage, Jack lost to Carreño-Busta of Spain, the eventual winner of the tournament. In New York, Draper had already managed to surprise by knocking out Auger-Aliassime, the world No.8. What's more, the Canadian was beaten in three sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in just two hours and 29 minutes. Draper served nine aces on four double faults, won 84% of his first serve points and 59% of his second. On the receiving end, Draper had 25%/52%, 29/17 winners/unforced errors. Separately, let's note Auger-Aliassime's winners/unforced errors stats: 27/41. Obviously, the Canadian has not played the best game of his career.
"They know Khachanov in Britain. I've watched a little bit of his matches. Karen is a quality tennis player, plays power tennis. He's been in the top 50 for a long time, so it's going to be tough. In the five-set format, we will have a physically demanding match. Hopefully I can show my current level."
Expert Betting Tips
Despite the positions in the rankings, the bookmakers are on the side of the Briton. Jack was indeed very active before the U.S. Open, played more matches than Karen, had a better result. Bookmakers rightly see the Brit as a slight favorite. However, there can be no doubt that Karen won't give up the win that easily, which means a protracted match is very likely. Draper defeated Auger-Aliassime in three sets, but we noted that the Canadian had a weak match, which also has to be taken into account. In general, we think that Jack should not be overestimated, and the experienced Khachanov can defeat the Englishman. Here are the betting options for this match:
