Iga Swiatek
After the clay court of the season, Iga Swiatek played only four matches on hard courts of Toronto and Cincinnati. Before the US Open it seemed that she was in bad shape, but as the tournament showed it was a wrong opinion. In New York the Pole had five wins and lost only one set to German Niemeier in the last 16. She defeated Paolini, Stevens, Davis and Pegula 2:0. Her quarterfinal match against Jessica Pegula lasted nearly two hours, which Iga won 6-3, 7-6. Iga had one ace and three double faults, won 50% of points on the first serve and 50% on the second and received 48%/79% of her serves and 22/32% of winners/unforced errors.
Aryna Sabalenka
Before the US Open, Aryna had a good tournament in Cincinnati, reaching the semifinals, but lost to the future winner, Garcia. On the way to the semifinals, Sobolenko lost two sets to Kanepi and Collins, knocking out Harrison, Burel, and Pliszkova. The quarterfinal against the latter was not as tight as it could have been. The first set lasted 29 minutes, and the Czech took only one game. But the second game turned out to be more protracted, and the girls played up to the tie-break, which Aryna won with a score of 7:4. During the match, Sabalenka fired seven times and three double faults, winning 72% of points on the first serve and 63% on the second one. On reception, Arina had the following statistics: 36%/58%, 30/28 of winners/unforced errors.
