Analysis and prediction for the US Open Round 128 match between Andrey Rublev and Thiago Seyboth on the 26th of August 2024.
Claim Welcome BonusAndrey Rublev (ATP #6)
Andrey Rublev comes into this match on top form, having won his 18th ATP title in Hong Kong the past week. He has recently put up good performances: consistent deep runs in the majors, reaching quarterfinals in all four Grand Slams, and very strong on hard courts, culminating in recent success and trouble given to top-tier guys like Novak Djokovic.
Rublev will probably fall back on his aggressive baseline game plan, turning to an extremely effective forehand that gives him the control over the rallies. Being able to dominate on serve and return might be key in this match, particularly against Seyboth Wild, who sometimes struggles with top-end pace or consistency in general.
Thiago Seyboth Wild (ATP #69)
Thiago Seyboth Wild, however, has not been in good form lately. In particular, besides clay courts, nothing significant has happened for him. The last notable win was in the summer of 2023 when he surprised Daniil Medvedev at Roland-Garros. Since then, nothing remarkable has come from him on quicker surfaces such as hard courts.
He will probably look to use Seyboth Wild's style of play, with that same spin-heavy forehand, to get Rublev into longer rallies and wrest some errors from him. But given the form Rublev is in and the poor record Seyboth Wild has on hard courts, that likely won't be enough to tip things his way.
Expert Betting Tips
This match is very much slanted towards Rublev, given his experience and form on hard courts. Seyboth Wild is not a guy to look over, though. He's got the firepower to hassle Rublev if he can get that forehand going and really extend the rallies.
On the other hand, some greater consistency and hard-court pedigree swing the balance in favor of Rublev. He will presumably outlast Seyboth Wild in baseline exchanges, look to capitalize on weaknesses in his game—notably on the backhand side—and maybe come through in straight sets, even if Seyboth Wild does well to make things interesting in one of the sets.
