Seriously, the tennis scene has no chill and the number of games lined up, especially early on is incredible. When the slate is so full, there are bound to be some incredible battles. Alize Cornet
Alize continues to grind her way into a deep run and the veteran lodged a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win in the first round against Katerina Siniakova. In that game, Alize had a strong first serve percentage of 78 and had a win% of 70 on the first serve. She made up for the service points disadvantage, where she was outplayed 44-46 by eking out 31-25 receiving points which is surely one of her strengths.
Cornet’s ended Emma Raducanu’s title defense with a 6-3, 6-2 win first up. Cornet has committed 5+ Double Faults in the first two games and she really needs to improve that. In a 17-year Grand Slam career, this has been the best year for Cornet, having reached the Quarter-Final of the Australian Open, third Round of French Open, the fourth round of Wimbledon. Can she make a deeper run during the US Open too?
Danielle Collins
Danielle Collins marches into the game after beating Cristina Busca 6-2, 7-5. In that game, Collins had a rather underwhelming 54% first serve but when she got it right, nabbed a 82% in terms of winners. However, she made it up in terms of returns and had a strong 34-22 receiving points advantage. She defeated Naomi Osaka in the first round, where she also had a weak 55% first serve.
She has been tabbed as the 19th seed and that is still not a dramatic fall for the number 7 rank when she peaked. This is a woman who reached the Final of the Australian Open but since then she has lost a bit of steam. The biggest problem is getting the first serve right which has taken out of the much-heralded aggressiveness attributed to the veteran player. Can she get another deep run during US Open?
Alize Cornet vs Danielle Collins Head-to-Head
Danielle and Alize have met once and that was during the Australian Open this year and Danielle won that battle.
Expert Betting Tips
Alize has been great at countering opponents’ serve and although she doesn’t have the strongest stroke, she is still a formidable draw, no matter what the serve. When Danielle was getting it going in the Australian Open, she was a different player, however, her first serve% has not been impressive even during her prime earlier this year. I believe this will be a three-set affair with Collins coming on top.
