Alejandro Davidoch Fokina
By overcoming Yoshihito Nishioka and Marton Fucsovics, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina advanced to the third round of the US Open. He then faced Daniel Elahi Galan, who had previously surprised Stefanos Tsitispas in the first round.
Davidovich Fokina took an early break in the first set to go up 2-0. Galan was unable to make up for lost ground, and the Spaniard took the set. The 23-year-old was up 2-0 to begin the second set, but his opponent managed to tie the score.
Davidovich Fokina then saved two set points when serving to keep the match at 5-4. Galan, on the other hand, won the following two games to capture the set. He surged out to a 5-1 lead in the third set, but his opponent responded by winning three straight games.
He subsequently regained control of the situation by serving out the set to win it. Galan was ahead 4-1 in the fourth set, and it appeared like the match would go the distance. However, the Spaniard won the match in five straight games, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Matteo Berrettini
Berrettini faced three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray after defeating Nicolas Jarry and Hugo Grenier. The Italian survived a break opportunity in the sixth game of the first set and then broke his opponent's serve to take a 4-3 lead. This lone break was sufficient for him to win the set later on.
Berrettini broke serve again to start the second set, but Murray broke immediately back to tie the score. Over the following three games, the duo's serve remained consistent. The Italian snatched the critical break in the ninth game, following which he claimed the set by serving it out.
The third set ended in a tie-break, with Murray winning. The Brit played immaculate tennis, winning seven points in a row. The former World No. 1 took the momentum into the fourth set, scoring a break of serve early on.
Berrettini promptly responded to square the game at 1-1. The Italian finally won the final three games of the set, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-3.
Expert Betting Tips
Berrettini's results leading up to the US Open were disappointing, but he's playing himself into shape in New York. Davidovich Fokina will most certainly put up a fight, but with the Italian gradually regaining his form, he should be able to win in the end.
