France, Paris.
Daniil Medvedev advanced to the second round of Roland Garros for the first time in his career. And the next opponent for the Russian on the clay courts of Paris will be American Tommy Paul. The guys have never crossed paths with each other, with the world No. 2 quoted as the favourite.
Tommy Paul: Parma semi-finalist
Paul has been an active participant in the clay ground of the season. The American started on the clay court back in Cagliari, continued in Monte Carlo and Madrid. Then he moved to Rome, played two matches in Lyon and reached the semi-finals in Parma last week. Just the tournament in Parma was the most successful for Tommy, here the American knocked out Travaglia, Merry and Struff, losing 0-2 to Korde one step before the final. In the first round of Roland Garros, Paul faced Australia’s O’Connell, the world No. 129. The match was a tight five-set tiebreak in the fifth game. The match lasted more than three and a half hours.
Daniil Medvedev: Great achievement for Daniil
In his fifth year at Roland Garros, Medvedev finally made it to the second round. Daniil defeated Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan in the first round of the current draw, whom he had previously beaten twice in Russian tournaments in Kazan and Moscow. Unlike Paul, Medvedev overcame his opponent in less than two hours, but it was a three-set match against Bublik, with the third set being the tensest. Medvedev was still far from his peak, but he showed quality tennis. Medvedev made only 16 unnecessary mistakes in three sets, while actively winning 28 balls. For Bublik’s example, this statistic is 27/45. Medvedev’s excellent play on his opponent’s second serve is also noteworthy, with 51% of the points won by Daniil.
Expert Betting Tips
Medvedev is unlikely to be able to compete even with Djokovic, let alone Nadal. However, Medvedev is certainly capable of beating Paul. We believe that Daniil will not be too picky with the Americans, but will finish the match in the shortest time possible. Here are the odds for the game: Тotal Under 35.0 for 1.89, Handicap 2 (-6.0) for 1.83.
