Kontaveit’s season took off very early in the year with successes at St Petersburg, Doha and Stuttgart. After February, her form took a nosedive, a situation she blamed on Covid-19. She has struggled at the Grand Slams this year, not progressing beyond the second round in any of them. Despite her struggles, she has risen in the rankings and is now seeded second at the US Open.
