Denis made seven aces and nine double faults and won 71% on the first serve and 51% on the second. Denis had the following statistics on the receiving end: 26% of points won on the first serve of Hijikata and 66% on the second.

Safiullin had more practice. He played three official matches in Adelaide, while Denis had only one. The Canadian struggled to win it, although his opponent was not top.
