Nadal began his campaign against Cameron Norrie of the United Kingdom. Both players began off strong, but it was the Spaniard who finally won. He broke his opponent's serve in the sixth game to lead 4-2 and quickly closed out the match.
The second set was similar, except that it went Norrie's way. In the sixth game, he broke Nadal's serve to go up 4-2. The former World No. 1 got a break point in the next game to get back on serve, but he couldn't convert it. After a couple of games, the Brit won the set.
Nadal's fortunes did not improve in the third set. He dropped serve in the sixth game, falling behind 3-2. He had break point chances in two of Norrie's service games, but his opponent pulled through when it counted. The 36-year-old was defeated 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 by the Brit, who quickly served out the match.
Alex de Minaur
De Minaur has previously met Norrie in a singles match. He immediately fell down 4-1 in the first set, and the margin proved too great for him to overcome. The Australian was unable to recover and eventually lost the set.
The second set was no different, with de Minaur behind by a break once more. He served to keep the match alive at 5-3, but Norrie broke his serve again to win 6-3, 6-3.
Expert Betting Tips
So far, Nadal hasn't lost to the young Australian, but he hadn't lost to Norrie either before Saturday. It's going to be another struggle for the Spaniard, but his chances of winning are much better this time.
