Berrettini began the 2022 season with reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open, where he was defeated by eventual winner Rafael Nadal. After a poor showing in Rio de Janeiro and an early retirement in Acapulco, the Italian travelled to Indian Wells, where he was ousted in the fourth round by Miomir Kecmanovic.
Soon after, Berrettini revealed that an injury to his right hand required immediate surgery, necessitating his withdrawal from Miami and the tour's clay swing, which included the French Open.
He then made a stunning recovery during the grasscourt season by winning consecutive titles at the Stuttgart Open and Queen's Club Championships. The Italian, however, had to withdraw from Wimbledon after contracting COVID-19. He returned to the tour a few weeks later and made a quarterfinal appearance at the 2022 US Open, where he was defeated by Casper Ruud.
Berrettini was later chosen as Team Europe's replacement for the 2022 Laver Cup, replacing Roger Federer in the middle of the match. He then took part in the Tennis Napoli Cup.
The Italian overcame Roberto Carballes Baena, Taro Daniel, and Mackenzie McDonald on his way to the final. Unfortunately, Lorenzo Musetti's streak came to an end during the all-Italian summit showdown.
Daniel Evans
Meanwhile, Dan Evans began his season in the ATP Cup for Great Britain. Evans then advanced to the semifinals of the Sydney International, where he had been seeded third.
Evans started the Australian Open as the 24th seed and advanced to the third round before being eliminated by Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. Following the Major, the Brit suffered in the following two Slams, the French Open and Wimbledon, when he was ousted in the second and first rounds, respectively.
Soon after, he turned in back-to-back good performances, reaching the semifinals of the Citi Open and the National Bank Open, where he was defeated in three sets by eventual champion Pablo Carreno Busta.
The 32-year-old was looking to redeem himself after a disappointing Grand Slam performance at the US Open. He was unable to accomplish so, however, as he was ousted in the third round by Marin Cilic in a four-set battle that lasted four hours.
Evans then competed in the European Open and the San Diego Open, reaching the quarterfinals and semifinals in both events. Marcos Giron ended his streak in San Diego, while Auger-Aliassime did the same in Europe.
Expert Betting Tips
Dan Evans is a challenging opponent since he can play well inside and has a fascinating style. In addition to a strong serve, he has a variety of volleys and slices that may be devastating.
The Brit, on the other hand, is not the strongest hitter on tour, so an aggressive player like Berrettini has a decent chance of defeating him.
