Huesler is the Swiss number one now that Roger Federer has retired and Stan Wawrinka is battling to regain his previous form.
After winning the doubles championship in Bastad with partner Dominic Stricker, and then earning his first senior singles title in Sofia, beating Dane Holger Rune in the final, he has done so on merit.
Last week, he had the misfortune of meeting the eventual victor, Felix Augur-Aliassime, in the first round of his home event in Switzerland.
He did, however, qualify for the Paris Masters for the first time by defeating Hugo Gaston of France in three sets and Laslo Djere of Serbia in two.
Jannik Sinner
Sinner is still hoping to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin, but a strong result in Paris is required. He declined the opportunity to compete in the NextGen ATP Finals, thinking that he has advanced to a higher level.
So far in 2022, the 21-year-old has one championship to his name: the Croatia Open in July.
Sinner, a semi-finalist at the US Open, has since made the quarter-finals in Sofia and Vienna, which should give him some confidence heading into this tournament, and he should start as a heavy favourite in this opening round encounter.
Expert Betting Tips
Although Huesler has improved significantly, Sinner understands that there is little space for error at this point in the season and will be desperate to win.
