She was defeated by qualifier Anastasia Potapova in the semifinals. In Madrid, she was defeated by 14th seed Coco Gauff in the second round. At the Italian Open, after advancing past qualification, Putintseva defeated eighth-seeded and world No. 10 Garbie Muguruza in the second round to earn her fourth top-ten victory overall. She dropped the third round.
