Only eight players remain in the battle for the Stuggart Open title and we are bound to see some heated battles and incredible window. In this Best of Eight battle, Matteo Berrettini will take on Lorenzo Sonego in an Italian battle. Berrettini entered the tournament as the second-seeded player whereas Lorenzo is constantly on the rise. Who will crank up the heat here?

Italian Matteo is the tenth-ranked player in the world and has carved out a special place in the tennis world. He is the number one Italian player, just two places above the dynamic young player Jannik Sinner. As he entered as the second-seeded player in the tournament, he got a bye for the first round. In the second round, he defeated Radu Albot 6:2, 4:6, 6:3 to advance to the Quarter-Finals.
Matteo has a sturdy forehand and likes to approach the game aggressively. He serves can reach 230+ kilometers/per hour speed. He prefers garnering quick points than engaging in long exchanges. Although, he has some defensive shortcomings and at times when he is on the receiving end, he can face a lot of trouble. But overall, as a six feet five inches player with an athletic build and a strong forehand, he will always be a tough match-up.
Lorenzo Sonego
Lorenzo, another Italian, entered the tournament as the sixth-seed but that didn’t give him a bye till the Round 0f 16 like Matteo. Ranked 32, Sonego has been doing a decent job of climbing up after he had achieved the career-best ranking of 21 in October 2021. Anyway, back to this tournament, Sonego won the Round of 32 battle against Benoit Paire. And in his last game, he beat Jen-Lennard Struff in a grueling 7-6, 7-6 game.
Sonego relies a lot upon topspin and on a green surface, he performs at his best. There is no doubt that the inability to perform on clay courts has hinged Lorezo but the talented player can be a challenging opponent when the battle is on the green. Known for flat hits, Lorenzo loves it when the ball is moving at a rapid pace.

This is an interesting battle for sure. Although Matteo is a higher-ranked player and will enter as a favorite here, Lorenzo’s game on the Stuggart surface can act as a big challenge. Matteo can be bogged down because of his weak defensive game but his bigger build and a two-inch advantage mean that Lorenzo will have to contend with some powerful serves. This can be a close battle but I see Matteo nabbing one here, but it will probably take three sets.
