The WTA scene heats up in the US Open as we head towards the second half of the tournament. The curveballs have already been thrown as Darya Kasatkina and Simona Halep, two of the top-ten seeds have already been ousted and that sums up WTA. Will the 22-seeded player Karolina Pliskova face the same fate against Magda Linette?

Karolina Pliskova
Apart from the Canadian Open, where she reached the Semis, Pliskova hasn’t reaped deep runs lately and has been ousted by the first and second round consistently. This is a woman who has been ranked number on in 2017 and was there for around two months. In 2016, she did reach the Final of the US Open but overall, she hasn’t won a Grand Slam yet in her career which means that time is running out on the stellar veteran player.
She is known for her power game and even if she has lost her earlier aggressive nature, she remains a highly competitive athlete who earns her winners quickly. She has consistently been top ten in number of Aces but lately, that number has gone down, due to both age and the emerging young talent. She has a weakness against counterpunchers, something which has held her back.
Magda Linette
Magda has been a strong competitor in the WTA scenario but has never gone past the 33 ranking due to her inability to make deep runs in the major tournaments. Her win percentage of 28 against top-ten ranked players implies that she can’t be trusted in major games but she has had some impressive wins nonetheless.
Her best run came during last year’s French Open where she reached the Semi-Finals. In the US Open, she has never made it past the Third Round, something she accomplished in 2018. Mostly, her campaigns in Grand Slam have ended in the first or the second round. Will that change here?
Karolina Pliskova vs Magda Linette Head-to-Head
Karolina and Magda have met seven times in their career with Pliskova having an overwhelming six wins and one loss record against Linette. They last met during Tokyo Open in 2017 where Pliskova won in two sets during her peak.
Expert Betting Tips
For sure, Karolina is the favorite here. Her overall credentials and head-to-head record will give her the edge here. Linette has had a solid career but the way she struggles against top players can make for an early exit. Pliskova’s strong groundstrokes can overwhelming Linette and I believe Karolina will win this easily in two sets
