James Duckworth
Duckworth was a second-round underdog against Christopher O'Connell in the first round. He finally won in four sets, securing a second round ticket at the US Open for only the second time in his career.
O'Connell won the first set easily, but Duckworth gradually turned things around in the second set to win it in four. Duckworth won the two-hour-and-46-minute match 4-6, 7-6 (0), 6-2, 6-3.
Duckworth, who came into the competition with only two victories from four tournaments in the US Open Series, managed to maintain his serve for the rest of the match after falling in the opening.
Two serve breaks in the third and fourth sets sealed the deal for him, as he advanced to the second round for the first time since 2016.
Daniel Evans
Evans was on court for less than two hours in his first round triumph over Jiri Vesely, dropping only six games and advancing to the second round of the US Open for the seventh time in a row.
The Brit, who is now ranked 23rd in the world as opposed to his career-high of 22nd, was helped by Vesely's nine double-faults and did not face a single break-point during the match. This was due to his ability to win 91% of his first serves.
At the same time, he collected 14 break points, six of which he used to break his opponent.
Evans had previously been to the semifinals of the Montreal Masters and appeared to have taken that form into Flushing Meadows. He appears to be a good bet to make it to the third round.
Expert Betting Tips
Evans should have little trouble in this one, sailing to an easy victory. However, a fourth set is possible.
