Iga Swiatek vs Cori Gauff Prediction: No answer for Iga thus far

The WTA Finals have had some brilliant battles, multiple tiebreakers, games going to the last set, and players recovering from an awful first set to take control. Thus, the race to the Semis has become a knockout affair but there are some permutations and combinations that need to be sorted. However, for Iga Swiatek, the way has been clear-cut, win, win, and win. In this game, she will be facing off against young USA athlete Cori Gauff.

Swiatek continued to dominate the field and she took care of business easily as she defeated Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-2. Her first serve percentage of 58 was low but she hit 74% winners on her first serve and 52% on the second serve, both way higher than Garcia. Swiatek had a slim 23-22 receiving points edge but a decisive 38-23 service points advantage which made for the one-sided battle. This result was not a surprise as Iga also won comfortably against Daria and is yet to lose four games in a set. It will not be a surprise if she replicates her heroics again.

Cori Gauff’s chances of advancing to the Semis were reduced to zero when she lost 6-7, 3-6 against Daria. After performing well in the first set, she was unable to break through Daria in the tiebreaker and lost momentum. She looked out of gas in the second set and lost her way completely. She had a strong 76% first serve but just had a 45% win on the first serve which has become a concern. She had just 54% win on first serve in her loss to Caroline Garcia and it is a shame that the athletic player has lost the chance to advance. But if she defeats Iga or even takes it to three sets, it will be a big confidence booster.

Swiatek and Cori has played four teams and Swiatek has dominated all the games, winning all the h2h battles. She is yet to drop a set against Gauff.

The h2h clearly indicates who has the edge here and it isn’t just that. Swiatek has won three Grand Slams this year and she is objectively the best WTA player by a distance. Thus, Cori is faced with another tall task here and it will not be a surprise if she is unable to win a set here. Thus, it is a no-brainer to believe Swiatek will take this in two sets with a big difference. Can Gauff at least win four games in a set? I favor Swiatek to win big.
