With victories against Jurij Rodionov and Taylor Fritz, Shapovalov advanced to the quarterfinals, where he faced Dan Evans. He began the match with a break of service and extended his lead with a hold to make it 2-0.
Evans had an opportunity to regain serve, but he botched on a break point in the sixth game. Shapovalov broke the Brit's serve once again at the conclusion of the opening set to seal the victory.
The Canadian took a 3-0 lead in the second set and held it till the end to win the match 6-3, 6-3. Shapovalov has officially reached his sixth season semifinal.
Borna Coric
Coric advanced to the last eight after defeating Quentin Halys and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Hubert Hurkacz awaited him. The Croat took an early break and led 3-1 in the first set. He maintained his position as the frontrunner and quickly won the set.
In the second set, neither player was able to break the other's serve, though Hurkacz did have a set point in the 10th game. Despite passing up an earlier opportunity, he still won the set in the next tie-break.
Though Hurkacz had a few break point opportunities in the third set, Coric was too consistent on service for him to capitalise on them. The set subsequently proceeded to a tie-break, which the Croat won 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-6(5) to go to his second semifinal of the year.
Expert Betting Tips
Shapovalov easily won their prior meeting at the Japan Open last month. With his current form, he'll enter this contest as the favourite. His gameplay appears to have improved slightly in recent weeks, and if he maintains this level, Coric may find it difficult to surpass him.
