By his lofty standards, the Russian had a fairly good year. He won two ATP championships this year, at Vienna and Los Cabos, defeating Shapovalov and Norrie in the finals, and he won 45 of his 64 matches this year.
Despite missing Wimbledon and suffering several mid-season physical setbacks, Medvedev reached another Grand Slam final at the Australian Open, losing in five epic sets to Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6, 4-6, 4-6, 5-7. His last match of the season occurred at the ATP Finals, when he lost to Djokovic in three sets, 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6. (2).
Lorenzo Sonego
Sonego had a rough 2022 singles season, winning only 26 of his 55 circuit matches, boosted by an ATP victory in Metz, where the Italian upset Alexander Bublik in the final 7-6(3), 6-2.
This season, he advanced to the third round of the first three Grand Slams. His final encounter of the 2022 season came at the Rolex Paris Masters, where he lost in straight sets against Frances Tiafoe in the first round, 6-4, 6-4.
