Daniil Medvedev is the favorite to book an early spot in the knockout stages but he has a very tricky game on his hands here.
He started off with a win over Andrey Rublev, winning 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets. He recorded 10 Aces and 3 double faults. While he also won 30 out 37 first serve points and 14 out of 27 second serve points. He played 9 service games and also saved all 7 breakpoints. He ended the game with a total of 75 points and he won 12 games.
Daniil Medvedev leads 11-7 on the head-to-head record against Alexander Zverev. The last time the pair met, Daniil won in straight sets at the ATP Beijing China held in October.
Alexander Zverev
Alex Zverev deserved the flowers for his strong performance against Carols Alcaraz. Despite losing the first set 7-6, he turned things around beating Alcaraz 3-6, 4-6 in the remaining 2 sets
In the game, he recorded 16 aces and 2 double faults. He also won 66 out of 90 first service points and 4 out of 7 second serve points. He played 16 service games and saved 5 out 6 breakpoints. And by the end of the game, he won 100 points in total and he won 18 games.
Zverev and Medvedev are two very familiar opponents as both players have played 19 matches against each other. But Alexander Zverev trails 7-11 in the head-to-head against Daniil Medvedev. He lost their last meeting in the ATP Beijing in October but he defeated Medvedev in the previous games at the ATP Cincinnati, USA back in August.
Analysis and Predictions
This will be a very interesting tie between two very familiar opponents. Medvedev has the records on his side and he has beaten Zverev 4 times this season. But that aside, Zverev is no joke and his game against Alcaraz should be enough warning for any opposition. I expect these two to battle in 3 Sets with Medvedev coming out on top. Medvedev is simply unplayable on hardcourts this season.
