Round of 32

Since Wimbledon is just a few days away, tournaments like Mallorca Open are premium places to practise for the Grand Slam. There will be heavyweights competing in the tournament but that doesn’t mean that a player ranked away from the top ten can’t initiate a big run. And the same goes for Botic van de Zandschulp who can be in for something special here, and he will meet Marcos Giron here.

26-year old Botic has hit the prime of his career and he is ranked number 29 in the ATP rankings, which is the top mark he has attained in his career. During the Queen’s Club Championship tournament, he made a stellar run till the Semis before being thwarted by top-ten Matteo Berrettini. Botic has lost to top ten players like Rafael Nadal and to Casper Ruud, which means that he has some way to go.
He is a bit of an unorthodox player and although he isn’t flashy, he can engage in multiple rallies and has also shown the tendency to come back after falling behind a set. However, the tendency to leave too much to be done late in the game also has hurt him against big-name players. He will enter the tournament as a sixth-seeded player.
Marcos Giron
Marcos Giron enters the tournament as a 60th-ranked ATP player. He achieved his highest ranking last month when he was placed at 49. He last played in Halle Open, when he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime. He has had a rather tough year and has been mostly ousted in the first round and even during the Qualifiers during the Madrid Open. Giron is 28 now so the window to make a deep ranking run has been slashing.
His hip surgeries have held him back a bit but despite that, he remains an immaculate player who can engage in long rallies. However, his weakness has been his inability to establish a power game, which allows power servers to take the game away from him.
Head-to-Head
Botic and Marcos have only met once and that was last year when Giron the battle in the Indian Wells Open.
Expert Betting Tips
It is clear that Botic has had a better season than Marcos but Giron has beaten him once. Marcos has struggled to make deep runs and the high-ranking players have surely struggled. It is clear Botic will enter with an advantage here and I see him winning here lop-sided.
