Benjamin Bonzi vs Denis Shapovalov Prediction: Shapovalov's sixth consecutive defeat?

In the second round of the Mallorca tournament, Benjamin Bonzi will meet Denis Shapovalov. The guys have not yet crossed paths with each other. However, bookmakers are on the Canadian side of the pair, despite two consecutive defeats on the grass.

Benjamin Bonzi's current form

For Bonzi, the Mallorca tournament is his third grass tournament of the season. In Stuttgart, the Frenchman was stronger than Lopez and Rinderknech but withdrew from the match against Otte, citing an injury. In Halle, the Frenchman ran into Tsitsipas, gave the Greek a fight, and even won a set 6-1, but lost the match in the end. The Frenchman started the tournament on the islands with a match against Tabilo, which was not completed due to the Chilean's withdrawal. Still, everything was going towards a two-set victory for Bonzi, and the match ended at 6-3, 4-2 in favor of Benjamin. In the game against Tabilo, Bonzi scored four aces and two doubles, winning 79% of his points on the first serve and 63% on the second. On the receiving end, the Frenchman showed the following statistics: 37%/43%.

Denis Shapovalov's current form

Shapovalov is playing in the second round as the seeded tennis player, but the Canadian is in a bad slump, counting five straight defeats, including two on grass. In Stuttgart, the Canadian lost to German Otte in two games. In London, he lost to American Paul in three sets. Despite the awful last statistics, Shapovalov is quoted as the notable favorite of the pair. Before last season, Shapovalov had negative stats on the grass, even though he won the 2016 Wimbledon Junior Championships. And in 2021, the Canadian shot up, had a statistic of 8-3, playing in the semi-finals of London and Wimbledon. But at the moment, Denis is clearly not doing well with his tone.

Bonzi has an advantage over his opponent in terms of playing practice. In addition, Benjamin has already played one match in Mallorca and looked quite good. Shapovalov is potentially stronger than his opponent, and last season showed that the grass surface is not alien to the Canadian.
