The tournaments before the Wimbledon serve as brilliant training grounds of the top tennis athletes preparing for the Grand Slam. However, there is more to just the training, and there is always prize money and the rankings that are at stake during these tournaments. The same goes for the Bad Homburg Open, where Alize Cornet and Tatjana Maria clash in the Round of 16 battle.

Alize Cornet enters the tournament as the 44th-ranked player and the 32-year-old has slipped through the years after she had attained 11th rank in 2009 as an 18-year-old. She defeated Anna Kalinskaya in the previous round to advance ahead. In her last major during the French Open, she was ousted in the third round by Qinwen Zhang. During the Major/Grand Slams, the former tennis superstar has been regularly eliminated in the first round.
Alize is an average height for a woman’s tennis player, standing at five feet eight inches. Cornet usually sets her play up behind the baseline and usually likes to use opponents’ pace against them, and that allows her to be aggressive around the baseline. However, Cornet has always been struggling in terms of service and has a tendency to commit too many faults.
Tatjana Maria
Tatjana Maria has been slipping in rankings consistently and she is lodged at 109th ranking in the WTA circuit. During the French Open, she was eliminated in the first round by Sorana Cirstea whereas she failed to even go past the Qualifiers in the other high-ranked tournaments such as Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open. Maria is busy in the ITF circuit and her WTA exploits have been rather limited for the past few years.
Tatjana is about five feet six inches. Tatjana can fare well on grass surfaces but Tatjana lacks both stamina and aggressive forehand style to counter quality opponents. Her lack of stamina hurts her on grass surfaces as her serve speeds have been average at best.
Head-to-Head
Tatjana Maria and Alize Cornet have met five tims and three of these battles have been won by Alize Cornet. These two last met during Canadian Open where Cornet defeated Maria in three sets.
Expert Betting Tips
The aggressive style of Alize Kornet can overwhelm Tatjana and thus, the only way she can win is by taking advantage produced by the double-faults, which have held Alize back quite a bit. Alize is at least seeded in major tournaments and unlike Maria, she doesn’t have to get through Qualifiers as such. Tatjana did beat Anastasia Potapova in three sets during the last contest, but Alize is a much more aggressive player.
