Following straight-set victories over Benjamin Bonzi and J.J. Wolf, de Minaur advanced to the quarterfinals against Denis Shapovalov. The Australian broke his opponent's serve twice to take the opening set 4-0. With a comfortable lead under his belt, he defended brilliantly and easily won the set.
At the start of the second set, Shapovalov took an early break to lead 2-0, but de Minaur quickly even the score. Following that, the duo stayed consistent on serve throughout the set, forcing a tie-break.
De Minaur was too strong for Shapovalov, winning the match 6-2, 7-6. (4). He has already advanced to his sixth season semifinal. The Australian has won just one of his previous four semifinal matches.
Holger Rune
Rune overcame Thiago Monteiro and Christian Garin to go to the quarterfinals, where he faced Cameron Norrie. He had lost all three prior meetings with the Brit.
Norrie broke early to take up a break in the first set for a 4-2 lead, but Rune quickly got back on serve. Later in the set, the match proceeded to a tie-break, with the Brit winning.
Rune took an early break in the second set to go up 3-1. He broke his opponent's serve once again to win the set and force a deciding. For the most of the final set, the duo successfully guarded their serves.
The youngster broke serve in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead.
Rune then took the court to serve for the match, and he did it with ease, completing a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3 comeback triumph.
