In the first round, Alex de Minaur beat Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-1. J.J. Wolf, who reached the final of the Firenze Open over the weekend, was his opponent in the second round.
De Minaur started the match on the back foot, behind 2-0, but quickly recovered to square the game at 2-2. The Australian then embarked on a three-game winning streak to take a 5-3 lead. Wolf moved up to serve during the opening set after a service hold.
De Minaur saved three break points before effectively serving out the set. He began the second set with a break of serve and quickly moved to a 5-1 lead. Wolf was no match for the Australian, who quickly finished up the match to win 6-4, 6-2.
Denis Shapovalov
Shapovalov faced qualifier Antoine Bellier in the second round after a first-round bye. The Canadian started things off with a break of service in his favor and extended his advantage to 2-0 with a hold of serve. He kept the lead till the finish of the opening set to secure it.
For the majority of the second set, the two remained evenly matched, with neither player getting close to a break point until the very end. Shapovalov took the key break in the 11th game of the set, leading 6-5, and then served out the match to win 6-4, 7-5.
