The Russian national team fielded its strongest squad for the mixed relay. Uliana Nigmatullina, who has not won a single individual award this season, but she has won silver twice in the relay, having taken part in three races, will be the slaughter. The second round will see Kristina Reztsova, who already got a bronze medal in the mass start in the World Cup this season and made it to the podium in the relay race three times. She became champion in the single mixed relay in Oberhof.
Alexander Loginov, who has already won the sprint in Oberhof to his credit, will open the men's programme and has been a three-time World Cup medallist in the relay events. Eduard Latypov, who also made it to the top-3 in relays three times all this season, was chosen by the coaching staff as a finisher, and in individual starts, he did well in Annecy. As we can see, all four athletes are ready to fight for the highest places in the team competitions.
The German team waited until recently to announce their bid for the mixed relay. In the only race of the current season at the World Cup, their team was represented by Vanessa Hinz, Vanessa Voigt, Roman Rees and Benedikt Doll. They finished in sixth place at the time, so there is a good chance of substituting. Nevertheless, it is unlikely to result in a great improvement as the Germans are failing the current biathlon season.
The German athletes have won only six medals in the World Cup. There are no men and no women in the top 10 overall. The German men's relay team got at least twice in the top three, but no medals were claimed in the mixed relay and the women's relay. As a result, we need to wager on the Russian national team beating Germany in the mixed relay for 1.65 and the Russians making it to the top 3 for 2.70.
Who will win the mixed relay?
The main favourites in the mixed relay are the athletes from Norway and France, the champions of the last two Olympics in this discipline. However, France failed to be among the medallists at the last three world championships, but the Scandinavians have been triumphant in three successive world championships. The Norwegian team will feature Tiril Eckhoff, who won five Olympic medals, including gold and silver in the mixed relay. She will pass on this winning experience to her teammates, and we'd like to bet on a Norwegian victory for 2.20.
