Waldo Cortes-Acosta is right now ranked thirteenth in the UFC heavyweight division rankings, and has been fighting under Dana White's wing since 2022. He has only lost one fight in his entire career, now going on a streak of three straight wins, winning usually on points.
Spectacular and desperate this guy definitely can not be called, but he does his thing inexorably, moving up the rankings and winning without taking much risk. The mistakes that he made in his only defeat, he didn't make in his next fights (I'm talking about the lack of distance in the fight against Rogerio de Lima, when he missed too many heavy low kicks).
His last fight against Robelis Despagnier showed that Cortes-Acosta is pretty good not only in the standup but also in the parterre, holding his jab well and breathing surprisingly well.
Ryan Spann
Ryan Spann is a former LFA champion and a very famous UFC fighter, among his opponents were real stars - Anthony Smith, Nikita Krylov, Dominick Reyes, Johnny Walker. In his last fight, Spann choked out Ovince Saint Preux and closed a three-fight losing streak (in which both Nikita Krylov and Bogdan Guskov finished him).
Spann has finally moved up to the heavyweight division, and it's a challenge for him, albeit a relief. He won't be losing in size, but the first fight in a heavier division is always stressful for any fighter.
Expert Betting Tips
On one hand, Ryan Spann won his last fight in the first round, but on the other hand, the vast majority of Cortez-Acosta fights (including the previous two) have gone to the judges' scorecards. Nobody on Earth has been able to defeat the Dominican ahead of schedule yet, and it's unlikely that Spann will be able to do so either. Acosta himself does not chase finishes, so whoever wins here will most likely do it not quickly.
Plus, the contenders are somewhat similar, both versatile but straightforward. There's a lot at stake, there's no sense in taking any risks, that's why we're predicting a difficult but long confrontation with plenty of clinching at the net and control in the parterre.
