Superlek advanced to the event final after defeating Taiki Naito at ONE 157 in May. Following that, he knocked off Walter Goncalves in the first round. 'The Kicking Machine' finished the Brazilian semi-finalist in 1:35, punching his ticket to the title fight.

The road to the competition final was significantly easier for Panpayak. The seven-time Muay Thai world champion took advantage of his opportunity, knocking out Michael 10 seconds into the second round to book a berth in the finals against the always dangerous Superlek.
