One of the yearly highlights of the UK's holiday racing season is the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow. The 3m 6f race is a serious endurance test, especially when the Monmouthshire track's terrain is difficult. The favorite has prevailed in three of the previous six editions. In 2016, Native River beat the odds by a margin of 11/4 for Colin Tizzard. While Secret Reprieve won at 5/2 in 2020, Elegant Escape won for the same connections in 2018.
In the past, Silver Birch, who finished first as the 10/3 favorite in 2004, is among the most well-known competitors since he later won the Grand National in 2007. The last horse to win both the Chepstow and Aintree double, he did so. At the most recent stage of declaration, the field for Tuesday had 26 racers, but on Boxing Day, the number of participants will be capped at 20. Iwilldoit won the Boxing Day race event in 2021.
