Washington is having a very tough time in the current regular season. It's unsurprising that the Capitals made it past the playoffs last season with no global personnel changes and all of their key players a year older. They managed to stay close to the top eight for a while, but their recent results have been disappointing. In their last 11 games, Spencer Carbery's men have suffered eight defeats, six of them in regulation time, and have only beaten Pittsburgh 4:3, Los Angeles 4:3, and the Rangers 3:2. That's only good enough for 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim is the league's underdog for another year, quietly struggling at the end of the Western Conference standings with no serious claim to a Cup. The Ducks only have short bursts of activity, winning a game or two and then going on a string of failures. At the turn of December and January, the Californians had a sad stretch in which they suffered six regulation losses in eight games, lost to Toronto 2:1 OT, and could only beat Vegas 5:2. After that, Greg Cronin's men beat Nashville 5:3, but then they went on a losing streak.
Expert Betting Tips
Washington and Anaheim are in 12th and 14th place in their conferences, and the level of ambition between the competitors is very different. The Capitals are still determined to make the playoffs, as they are just three points out of the Cup Final Eight and continue to drop points regularly. The Ducks have no chance of a Cup run as they are already two dozen points out of the top 8 and in terrible shape, losing game after game.
The confrontation between Washington and Anaheim in recent years turns out to be very rich in scoring. In the past nine meetings, the rivals have combined for 62 pucks (averaging 6.89 per game) - a respectable number by North American hockey standards. In their first regular-season game, the teams were not stingy in the scoring department as the Capitals claimed a 5:4 victory.
