San Jose had a terrible start to the season, losing nine in a row, but results improved. The Sharks have started to win, and when they fail, it's out of regulation, or at least not in a blowout. With 14 points, they are only 15th in the Western Conference, with only Chicago worse off. San Jose comes into this game on the back of three defeats - a 4:3 shootout loss to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and a 3:2 loss to the Rangers.
Detroit Red Wings
Detroit is also having a bad campaign. It's not as bad as the Sharks, of course, but the Red Wings have a much stronger squad. However, they are 14th in the Eastern Conference with 15 points, with only Columbus and Montreal below them. Detroit has suffered four defeats in their last five games, including a 4:6 loss to Anaheim and a 4:1 defeat to Los Angeles the day before.
