For New Jersey, the current regular season is very difficult, although a year earlier they played very well, making it to the playoffs, where they also performed well. It seemed that the young and ambitious team would continue to progress, but in fact the results went down. From the very beginning of the season, the Devils started to make a lot of point losses, and now there is no global improvement in the game. In the last five meetings they won only one victory over Colorado - 5:3, one more point in the match with Carolina, losing in overtime - 0:1, and three more times lost in regulation time, because of which they occupy only tenth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
SEA Kraken
Seattle is another team that had a much better last season than the current one. A year earlier, the Krakens made the playoffs for the first time in history, where they managed to knock off the reigning Stanley Cup winners in the first round. This success should have energized them for new achievements, but in fact they are not the best in the current regular season. The only exception is the stretch at the turn of December and January, when they suddenly produced a nine-game winning streak, but in the following nine meetings they suffered seven defeats, beating only Chicago and Columbus 6:2 and 4:2, respectively, which is only good enough for 11th place in the Western Conference standings.

New Jersey and Seattle are teams that have spent the last two seasons in similar fashion. A year earlier, they synchronously made it to the playoffs, where they advanced one round each, after which the current regular season is going badly for them, and therefore they are still located outside the cup eight of their conferences. The only thing that makes the Devils the favorites of the upcoming confrontation is the disgusting results of the Krakens in recent away battles, as they can't score a single point in five consecutive away games.
New Jersey recently has not always pleased the home crowd with good results, but the fans see bright and productive hockey in almost every battle on the ice at the Prudential Center. In the six previous games, the Devils had 50 shots on goal (8.33 average per game), and in five of the six cases they scored and conceded at least three goals each. There is reason to expect a goal shootout in the upcoming battle.
