Florida got off to a great start in the playoffs. The first meeting between the two teams gave the Sunrise faithful plenty to cheer about as their favorite team defeated a strong opponent. Sam Reinhart put the Panthers ahead in the opening minutes of the first period, only for their opponents to equalize before Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk scored the decisive goals in the third period to make it 3:2. Florida is now one step away from taking a 2:0 series lead in front of their home fans.

Tampa Bay Lightning

As far as Tampa Bay is concerned, you can't blame them for their opening game against Florida. No matter how you look at it, the Lightning had problems during the regular season and are a powerful opponent. On top of that, they're starting on the road, which generally isn't the best thing. Still, the score was 1:2 for most of the third period, and if the Lightning had capitalized on at least one of their chances, things could have been different. Ultimately, the legendary Steven Stamkos scored his second goal at 1:3, but ten seconds were not enough to save the game.

Florida is the favorite going into the second meeting. Tampa Bay won't give up in this series, and we wouldn't be surprised if they even took two games at home, but they're unlikely to get anything out of Sunrise.
