Colorado has been one of the strongest teams in the NHL in recent years. The Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2022 but could not build on their success last season as they were knocked out in the first round. The Avalanche started the previous regular season without much sparkle, but such ambitious teams are traditionally in no hurry to reach peak form. They gradually improved and finished comfortably in the playoffs, finishing fourth in the Western Conference. In the first round of the Stanley Cup, they faced Winnipeg: the first game was a shootout, which they lost 6:7, but in the second, they took revenge, winning 5:2.
Winnipeg Jets
Winnipeg fell to the eventual champions in the first round of last year's Stanley Cup and couldn't put up much of a fight, going down 4:1. Since then, the Jets have realized that a higher seed is preferable for a successful Cup campaign, so that they do not have to play the most famous opponent in their playoff debut. Indeed, they played very high during the regular season, avoiding severe slumps and winning eight of their last eight games. That helped them finish second in the Western Conference but did not prevent them from meeting Colorado in the first round. They won the opener 7:6 but then lost 5:2, giving them a home-ice advantage.
Expert Betting Tips
Colorado took care of business in the series' first game and regained home-ice advantage. Jared Bednar's squad has traditionally done well at home, winning 9 of the last 13 meetings. Now, they should be closer to success. Winnipeg had a very strong regular season, but as the second game of the series progressed, we saw the Avalanche take the initiative and dominate the ice. The Avalanche have a much higher level of skill, and there's no need to talk about the difference in Cup experience, as the Avalanche have far more of it.
Colorado and Winnipeg have been very efficient in recent years. In the seven previous meetings, the rivals have combined for 53 pucks (an average of 7.57 per game), which is a very high result. Even within the current series, there have been two high-scoring games in which the rivals traded victories - 7:6 and 5:2.
