Things were going very well for the Bruins, but then the team visited Amalie Arena, where they lost to the Lightning in regulation time (2:3). Then the team lost twice more in a row, apparently looking for trouble spots in their game. Boston failed to beat Florida (3:4 in overtime) and Carolina (1:4) on the road and ended their losing streak of three straight games only in their 5:2 road win over Toronto. It seems that Boston will continue to lose more often than in the first half of the season for the rest of the regular season. The team has a good margin in the standings and can safely experiment in preparation for the playoffs.
Washington Capitals
Boston has already secured its place in the postseason, but the regular season's second half will be decisive for Washington. The team is fourth in the Metropolitan Division, six points behind the top 3. Still, it's unlikely to knock off anyone from there - Carolina, New Jersey, and the New York Rangers trivially look much more respectable. There is the only hope for the wild card, where, in addition to Washington and Pittsburgh, the New York Islanders and Florida State are in contention for two spots, plus Philadelphia and Buffalo are noticeably closer to those teams. Do the Capitals look like one of the two favorites in this race? That's a very tough question.
Washington played the previous meeting on the road against Columbus and, with great difficulty, outplayed one of the main outsiders of this season - 4:3 in overtime with the winning goal of Evgeny Kuznetsov.
Expert Betting Tips
Boston is the clear favorite for the upcoming game. Washington is more motivated now, but it's unclear how Peter Laviolette's team can stop the Eastern Conference leader. The Capitals have good goaltenders now, especially Stanley Cup winner Darcy Kuemper for Colorado. The Canadian goaltender has a decent 2.62 goals-against average and 91.5 percent save percentage but is just 15-14 in wins and losses. Washington's problems today are not the goaltender's fault, as many people think for some reason. We're betting on Boston here and assuming a low-scoring game due to, again, the Capitals' good goaltending and the Bruins' home stats - only six of their 26 games at TD Garden this season have seen more than six pucks scored.
