English League One: Game Week 5
Stadium: Racecourse Stadium
7th September 2024
Wrexham will welcome Shrewsbury Town at Racecourse Stadium in Game Week 5 of the English League One. Wrexham had a good start to the tournament so far in the League. Who will come out on top after 90 minutes?
Wrexham form
Wrexham have started their first League One season since 2003-04 fairly well, with early indications that this may be a third successive promotion. They have taken results as recent as a 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers, a goalless draw with Bolton Wanderers, while going on to beat Reading and Peterborough United in back-to-back fashion. With 10 points from four matches, they lie in second place and are one of only three teams yet to suffer defeat in the League One this term. Wrexham have not played Shrewsbury in a league encounter since April 2008, although they did come out on top when they clashed in the FA Cup third round back in January.
Wrexham Predicted Lineup
Okonkwo; Barnett, Cleworth, O'Connell, O'Connor, McClean; Cannon, Dobson, Lee; Palmer, Marriott
Shrewsbury Town form
Shrewsbury made a disastrous start to the 2024-25 campaign as they were beaten in their opening three league games by Stevenage, Peterborough United, and Huddersfield Town. That put them on a run of 10 without a win in all competitions ahead of their home date with Leyton Orient last Saturday. However, Shrewsbury managed to seal a convincing 3-0 win with goals from Leo Castledine and a brace from Tom Bloxham. This was their first win in League One since March and represents an attempt at back-to-back wins for the first time since January 2023. Without an away trip to Wrexham since November 2007, Shrewsbury can take heart from an unbeaten run in the last four away matches against them, with three wins and one draw.
Shrewsbury Town Predicted Lineup
Savin; Hoole, Feeney, Nsiala, Benning; Gilliead, Perry; Bloxham, Castledine, Shipley; Lloyd
Wrexham vs Shrewsbury Town Expert Tips
Shrewsbury might have gained confidence with their first win of the season, but they should not get ahead of themselves as they may face a difficult task in traveling to Wrexham, that has won both its home matches this season.
