It's the opening game of the new campaign for LA Galaxy and it's a game they will hope to win. LA Galaxy had 6 games to prepare ahead of the new season and their results were somewhat disappointing. In the course of the 6 games, they had just 1 win, 3 defeats and 2 draws. Not a good sign for a team that intends to begin the season on the front foot. But they had a long period of rest and maybe that might play a part in the teams’ performance in the new season.
LA Galaxy finished 26th at the end of last season with a total of 36 points from 34 matches. Riqui Puig and Tyler Boyd were both top scorers at the end of the season with 7 goals and Douglas Costa registered 7 assists.
LA Galaxy's head coach will be expected to field a very competitive team ahead of the opening game. LA Galaxy signed Joseph Paintstil from Genk ahead of the new season. He scored 6 goals in 23 games at Genk and he will be a significant addition to this side that lacks a quality goal scorer. Miki Yamane also joins the squad from Japanese club Kawasaki Frontale. He played a defensive role for the club and they kept 11 clean sheets across 33 games. He also scored 2 goals and registered 2 assists.
Inter Miami
Inter Miami got off to a bright start despite the doubts surrounding the team after a horrible preseason tour. But they silenced the doubters by beating Real Salt Lake 2-0. Robert Taylor got the opening goal from an assist by Lionel Messi in the 39th minute and Diego Gomez scored the second goal from an assist by Luis Suarez in the 83rd minute.
Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino deployed a 4-3-3 formation with Lionel Messi operating down the right and Luis Suarez playing the CF role. Lionel Messi was once again the center of attraction in the game and the Argentine had quite a tough game. He registered 1 assist and also had 2 shots on target. But he lost possession 22 times during the game. The Inter Miami fans will hope the skipper builds on this performance ahead of the second round. Luis Suarez will also be searching for his first MLS goal in this second game. He had 2 shots on target and also missed a big chance against Real Salt Lake.
Head to Head
According to the h2h, Inter Miami and LA Galaxy played just 1 game against each other. LA Galaxy won the game by 3 goals to 2 back in 2021.
