Before this pairing of matches, Shkupi played several friendlies, and the visitors didn't win a single game in this period.

Last season, Dinamo Zagreb reached the playoff round of the Champions League qualifiers, where the Croats lost to Moldova's Sheriff. The Croats eliminated Valur, Omonoia and Legia from the competition. However, the first game against Valur was uneasy for Dinamo. The Balkans won with a score of 3:2, although they were 2:0 up during the game. Shkupi is inferior to Dinamo in terms of class, however, the Macedonians have already had match practice in the tournament, so there is no easy walk for the favourites.
