Benfica vs Juventus Prediction: The Turin side need a win

Juventus has picked up just three points in their opening four UEFA Champions League fixtures and now needs a win over Benfica to keep their playoff chances alive. Will the Turin side be able to achieve it?

The team was able to resist the third and fourth rounds of the Champions League group stage against PSG, having twice beaten the French 1:1. Benfica now has a good chance of qualifying for the playoffs. They share first place with PSG and have a handicap of five points ahead of third place. In the remaining two rounds, where, apart from Juventus, Benfica will face Maccabi Haifa, all they need is one win. And in certain circumstances, it would be enough to draw once in two attempts.

Last weekend, Benfica played a crucial match in the Portuguese championship against Porto and managed to secure a landmark victory (1:0). The only goal of the game was scored by Rafa Silva in the 72nd minute. After ten rounds, Benfica has a 6-point lead in the Premiership table.

Juventus

They have little or no chance of making the playoffs before the final two rounds of the Champions League group stage. The problem is that Juventus could only muster three points in their two games against Maccabi Haifa, beating them 3:1 at home and losing 0:2 away. The Turin side can only fight for third place in the quartet, enabling Juventus to qualify for the Europa League playoffs.

In the Italian championship, Juventus seem to be getting on well. In the previous two rounds, there have been two dry victories. First, they beat Torino 1:0 in the derby and then crushed Empoli 4:0. Juventus is still in eighth place in Serie A, but they are only five points behind the top four sides in the Champions League.

Juventus has no options - they need to win in Lisbon to retain their chances of qualifying from the group. That will force the team to attack more than usual, leaving open areas near their goal. So Benfica, who has scored in all four of their matches in the current tournament, is likely to be able to score. Juventus is also expected to find a goal of their own, as they seem to have begun to find their attacking game lately. Having exchanged goals, the opponents may well stop there.
